In this paper, we have synthesized a Fe3O4/C porous material, and characterized itsstructure. This material is synthesized by two-step method, sol-gel method and physicalactivation method, with sodium alginate as a carbon source and reducing agent, and ironnitrate as an iron source and cross-linking agent. Besides, we have explored the adsorptionproperties of the porous material of nitrobenzene, and discussed its adsorption mechanismthrough a study of benzene adsorption.1. From the viewpoint of green chemistry, we synthesized a gel pore structure, using thecheap and readily available biomass material alginate and Fe(NO3)3as crosslinking agent. After freeze-drying, it is calcined in a nitrogen atmosphere and at different temperatures.Fe(Ⅲ) can be reduced to generate Fe3O4, and sodium alginate is changed to carbon. So weultimately obtained a the porous Fe3O4/C material. By XRD, SEM, TEM, BET and a seriesof characterization techniques to determine the material properties.2. The Fe3O4/C composite exhibites excellent nitrobenzene adsorption capacity. Weexplores the effect of the adsorption time, amount of adsorbent, adsorption of quality initialconcentration on the adsorption process. Fe3O4/C-1000can achieve adsorption balance inone hour, and the adsorption capacity could reach57.48mg/g. With the increasing amountof adsorbent, the nitrobenzene removal rate continues to improve, which can be as high as97%. With increasing the initial concentration of nitrobenzene, the removal rate decreases, but the relative amount of adsorption is increasing.3. Through the adsorption equilibrium experiments of the Fe3O4/C composite to toluene, benzene, chlorobenzene, nitrobenzene and benzonitrile, we found that the electrostaticinfluence to adsorption process, that is, because the adsorbent have positively charge, themore negative electric charge the adsorbate have, the stronger the adsorption properties is.
