Research On The Aged Massage Chair Design

Step into the21st century, the aging process of our society speeds up. China hasentered into aging society, which brings to our society a series of problems, especiallythe increase of endowment burden. While the related healthcare industry developmentlags behind, this urgently needs to be speeded up and be improved.With the development of economy, people’s consciousness of life quality andhealth care has improved greatly, to some extent health has become more and moreimportant to people. Nowadays elderly people’s life style and thoughts have changed alot, they began to try some new things and are no longer afraid of high-tech healthproducts,and hope that those high-tech products are helpful to their health byimproving their last years life quality. There is a huge demand for elderly peoplemassage chairs in China, but the disparity between market demand and market supply-massage chair for elderly people on the current domestic market are very rare. If therewere a few manufacturer claims for elderly massage chair product, they are not trueelderly massage chair. They just acquire some features of the massage chair that aresuitable for the elderly. They are not designed according to elderly people’sphysiological and psychological characteristics, behavior, way of life, consumptioncharacteristics and demands, therefore these products are not really suitable for elderlypeople to use.In term of research on elderly people massage chair, Japan and Europe are aheadof us with more experience and long history. We can learn from them. But what weshould learn from them is their way of research, their efforts in human care, and figureout how they succeed by carefully study their successful design cases. In the design ofelderly massage chairs, we should take Chinese elderly life form as the foundation, anddesign according to specific conditions in China, as well as the physical andpsychological characteristics of elderly people, instead of simply copying from them.Only in this way can we successfully design massage chairs that are suitable for elderlypeople in China.This paper aims to find out how to design the right massage chairs for elderlypeople from the angle of human needs and presents elderly people’s need for massagechair by research on elderly people’s physiological and psychological characteristics, life style and features of consumer behavior. It put forwards the design basis of elderlypeople massage by fully research on them. Our research is focusing on the differencesbetween elderly people and other group of people. By analysis on the design elementand design principle of elderly people massage chair from angle of design theory, wehope to find solutions for elderly people last years life. Finally, hope that this paper’sresearch can provide relevant information to the elderly people massage chair design andbring attention of all sectors of society to the design of elderly people massage product.
