With the increasing number of elderly population, the aging problem has become a global concern. In China, there is a large number of elderly people, the research of their behavior and related product design is still lacking. Toileting behavior of the elderly has been a very prominent issue, because there are more obstacles and demand in this process. The elderly are the most people who use the closestool chair, but there is hardly any toileting behavior research and design for the elderly. In this paper, start from the behavior research of the elderly using the closestool chairs to summarize and analyze the problem, and to optimize the design of the closestool chair.Firstly, combined with the suggestion of professionals and the author’s personal nursing experience, the author investigated in the hospital wards and dwelling of the elderly, then concluded and summarized their obstacles and demand in this using process, with the elderly people’s physical condition. And proposed the existed problems of closestool chair. Secondly, the research resulting was divided into four categories:size, structure, material and additional features, then detailed each category of them, and clarified the specific reason what caused these disorders. Thirdly, combined with the older human dimensions, analysed every size problem of closestool chair with ergonomics. At the same time, analysed the problems of structure, material, color and additional features, proposed the solutions or optimization programs. So can provide a reference for the subsequent design, and strive to design a closestool chair what is more applicable, more comfortable or more convenient for elderly people.
