Continuous casting technology, which directly casts the molten steel into form, hasbeen widely used by steel corporations. Its advantages on increasing metallic yield rateand promoting the quality of casting blanks and so on have been obviously showed.Meanwhile, it has remarkable advantages in energy saving. Therefore, this technology isincreasingly emphasized.The severe quality problems in slabs, such as severe center segregation, centerporosity and center cracks were found by a steel mill during a process of putting thickslab continuous casting machine into dynamic soft-reduction hydraulic system. Theseproblems severely impede the efficiency and productivity of continuous casting slab.Roll gap deviations were found by the spot test and calculations on mechanical stress.Preliminary analyses determined that the cause of the roll gap deviations are mainly theelastic deformation caused by the dynamic stress on the upper and lower frames ofsegment bearings of the continuous casting machine during the casting procedure.This paper first carries out data analysis aiming at the result of the spot test,compensating the produced discrepancy data to the remote roll gap control system bycontrasting the reading of displacement transducer and actual measurement of the rollgap size. And then by detecting casting blanks, it can be found that the quality of castingblanks has been obviously improved.This paper utilizes the three-dimensional modeling software Pro/E to set up a solidconnecting device model of the fan-shaped segment upper and lower frames and importthis three-dimensional model into finite element analysis software, makinghigh-precision integral finite element analyses to the different loading condition ofconnection device, and numerically simulating the deformation field and stress field ofthe fan-shaped segment frame connection device. Through the detailed analysis of thenumeral simulation results, the deformation amount of connection device is obtainedand the structural strength and rigidity of the connecting rod are checked at the sametime. Then, the quality of slabs makes progress after the deformation amount iscompensated to the remote roll gap control system.After the implementation of this project, consumption of manpower and materialresources is largely reduced and the varieties of steel are expanded as well. The innerquality of casting blanks is obviously improved to100%under the C class2.0,90% under the C class1.5and30%reaches C class0.5from the C class segregation(Including the level of C class3.0). After cast, the quality segregation rate ofmedium-thick steel blank is reduced by65%.
