Organic-inorganic hybird mateirals are a new type of mateirals.Because tin-based fluorophosphate glass (TFPglass) has low glasstransition temperature (Tg) and low viscosity, hybrid materials containingTFPglass have been a new research frontier and have found been used asadditives in several types of plastics. Addition of TFPglass can lower meltviscosity, improve creep resistance and gas barrier properties.. In thisthesis, effects of composition and processing time on the structure andproperties of TFPglass. In addition, TFPglass was blended withhigh-viscosity grade nylon6(HVN6) of high and polycarbonate (PC),and properties of those hybirds were characteirzed. Results show that when processing time increases, the glasstransition temperature increases, viscosity and density decreases, and itsappearance becomes increasingly less clear. When composition changes, viscosity and density also changes accordingly. TFPglass of different compositions were mixed with HVN6, andtheir properties were analyzed. In particular, TFPglass with a compositionof5:2:3were blended in vairous vol. fractions with HVN6, and theirproperties and structures were characteirzed in detail. TFPglass issomewhat compatible with HVN6and can lower its viscosity, meltingtemperature, crystallization temperature, crystallinity, and Tg. In addition, its addition favors the formation of the a crystalline phase rather than they crystalline phase of HVN6. Addition of TFPglass into HVN6enhancestensile strength, tensile modulus, and lfexural strength, however, decreases the impact strength and elongation at break. Because the hybirdcan not form a carbon layer effectively, addition of TFPglass cannotimproved the flame retardance of the hybird.TFPglass (5:2:3) in vairous vol. fractions (1%,5%,10%) were meltblended with PC, and the properties of the resultant hybirds werecharacteirzed. Due to the poor compatibility between PC and TFPglass, minimal viscosity reduction is found. In addition, the mechanicalproperties of PC/TFPglass hybirds decreased significantly, which canpartially be explained by the breakage of PC chains caused by addition ofTFPglass. However, the hybrid exhibit better lfame-retardant propetrycompared with neat PC.
