| Poly-a-olefins (PAOs) are oligomers of linear a-olefins, which are used as base stocks for synthetic lubricants for automotive and industrial applications. Synthetic base stocks exhibit better performance when compared with the conventional mineral base stock. Various properties such as viscosity index (VI), pour point (PP) and volatility, thermal and oxidative stability are superior when compared with mineral base stocks.Oligomerization of1-butene with other alpha olefins catalyzed by (Me4Cp)2ZrCl2and aluminium chlorides to prepare polymer alpha olefins was studied in this paper. The kind of higher a-olefins, higher a-olefins dosage,1-butene/a-olefins mole ratio, Al/Zr mole ratio and reaction temperature were investigated. The results indicated that (Me4Cp)ZrCl2showed high activity and narrow molecular weight distribution in oligomerization of1-butene with other alpha olefins as raw material. Catalyst activity was reduced with the number of carbon atom increasing, while the viscosity index of oligomers was increased; The mole rate of1-butene/a-olefins showed significantly influence on the polymer viscosity index. Changing1-butene/a-olefins mole ratio could regulate product viscosity obviously; The Al/Zr mole ratio has significantly effect on the catalyst activity and oligomers property, The viscosity index of PAO was dramatically decreased with the AI/Ti mole raised; Temperature was the main technological conditions effecting on the oligomerization, The molecular weight of oligomerized products decreased with the increasing of temperature. The aluminium chloride catalyst exhibited high activity of in oligomerization of1-butene and1-butene with1-dodecene. The comonomer could increase the viscosity index of PAO.The optimum conditions for synthesizing lubricant were that0.2748mmol/L of (Me4Cp)2ZrCl2concentration,70℃of reaction temperature,100of Al/Zr ratio,13of1-butene/1-dodecene. Under the optimum conditions a high viscosity index of poly-alpha-olefin synthetic lubricants was obtained (67.08mm2/s at100℃, viscosity index121pour point-35℃),3wt%of AICI3, temperature60℃, the mole rate of1-butene/1-dodecene was13, the kinematic viscosity of the oligomer at100℃was9.24mm2/s, Viscosity index was97. |
