There are numerous small and medium-sized mines in the eastern Hubei andfrequent instability accidents of mining excavations,.which has been a serious threat tothe mine safety production. The basic principles of AE monitoring technology and thegeneral system of small and medium mine monitoring system is introduced briefly.Combined with the actual situation of Naojiao iron mine, the concentrated area ofgeostatic activity and crucial structure of the underground excavation are monitored. Thechanges in the stress field of surrounding rocks and pillars are analyzed quantitatively. The temporal and spatial variation of ground pressure activities is obtained preliminary.Simultaneously, the grey-catastrophe theory is applied to simulate and predict thedevelopment trends of AE. The geostatic activity conditions and stability of currentexcavation during recovery process are evaluated and foretasted.Research shows that the change of stress field which caused by the goaf excavationand goaf-scale changes is a dynamic process, it has a certain time effect. There is acertain lag in time when studying about the effect on surrounding rocks and crucialstructure. It indicated that the strength of geostatic activity caused by cavity excavationhas obvious difference through the comparison of AE parameters of each monitoringpoint, and there is little relationship with relative position of space. Based on long-termmonitoring data of excavation, the grey-catastrophe theory is applied, the excavation willnot occur obvious AE wave phenomenon in after a period of time is predictedPractice of the Naojiao iron mine shows that, based on AE monitoring, the researchon the rule of geostatic activity caused by underground mining has provides importantscientific basis for ore efficient mining and safe recovery of residual ore, and provides animportant safeguard for safety production and the sustainable development of mine.
