Achieving the binding emission reduction targets that carbon dioxide emissionsper unit of10,000yuan GDP reduced by17percent have been put forward clearly in"Twelfth Five-Year Plan" which is not also an important measure of our countrycoping with global climate change positively, but also a new claim that our countryraises for economic and social development and ecological environment protection inthe new period. Nowadays, in the period of rapid economic development,coal-dominant energy consumption structure can hardly be changed in the near future, and carbon dioxide emissions caused by fossil energy consumption still keepincreasing. Proposing of carbon intensity targets brings our country tremendouspressure and challenges of energy conservation and energy consumption structure.Researching on our country the main driving factors of China’s carbon dioxideemissions intensity and analyzing spatial driving type of carbon dioxide emissionsintensity in all the provinces in our country will provide a theoretical basis ofestablishing measures and strategies of diminishing carbon dioxide emissionsintensity in our country and provinces. This paper divides driving factors of carbon emissions intensity into technicalfactors, energy consumption structure factors, energy intensity factor and theindustrial structure factors with LMDI’s perfect index decom posit (LMDI) andmeasures driving effect of carbon emissions intensity with relative data; analyzespatial driving types of carbon emission density in provinces with LMDI combiningwith relative data of economic, energy and carbon emissions in provinces. The resultsshow that the energy consumption structure and energy intensity are the mostsignificant factors affecting the changes in China’s carbon dioxide emissionsintensity;there are four carbon emission density spatial driving types in30provinces (except Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Tibet) in total: single factor type, two factorsdominant type, three-factor antagonist type and four factors integrity type,7provinces mainly dominate in energy consumption structure effect (single factorleading type),13provinces dominate in energy consumption effect and energyintensity effect(two factors dominant type),8provinces mainly dominate in theenergy consumption structure effect, energy intensity effect and industrial structureeffect(three-factor antagonistic type),2provinces mainly dominate in the energyconsumption structure effect, energy intensity effect, industrial structure effect andtechnology effects (four factors type). Distribution characteristics are significant anddifferent types of carbon emission intensity drivers in provinces existed discrepancies. In future, we should start the key driving factors, adjust energy structure and reduceenergy intensity while we should also promote the development of other factors suchas technological progress, industrial restructuring, in order to reduce carbon emissionintensity. The results provide good support for our country and provinces to establishcarbon emission reduction policies and supply reference value to work out ThirteenthFive-Year Plan.
