The research about biological pharmacological function of rare earth, especially the effect of rare earth on resistance mutations and antitumor, has attracted most scientific interest recent years. The mechanism of antitumor on rare earth ions, such as characteristics of apoptosis, is researched by many researchers. Therefore, it’s a great significance to study the effect of rare earth on tumor cells growth, in particular, the induction apoptosis effect on anti-cancer drug screening and research.The293cell is studied. Adding different concentrations of Gd3+, Nd3+, Er3+and La3+to the cells and culturing for24h, the cell survival rate and the apoptosis rate are detected using ELISA Reader and Flow Cytometry. The surface morphology of293cells is observed using Inverted Optical Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope. The content of8-OHdG in293cells is detected using High Performance Liquid Chroma-tography (HPLC-UV).Gd3+,Nd3+,Er3+and La3+have effect on the growth of the293cells, so called "group effect". The growth of the293cells is named "low promote high suppression" by MTT method. The mimimum inhibition concentration of Gd3+and Nd3+is1.0×10-2mol/L. When the concentration is less than1.0×10-3mol/L, it shows the enhancement effect. The mimiximum inhibition concentration of Er3+is1.0×10-3mol/L. When the concentration is less than1.0×10-4mol/L, it shows the enhancement effect, and when the concentration is greater than1.0×10+2mol/L it shows strong inhibition effect. No matter how much the concentration of La3+is, it can inhibit the293cells growth. The inhibitory effect increases with the concentration of La3+, as a positive correlation.Gd3+,Nd3+,Er3+and La3+have effect on the apoptosis of the293cells by Flow Cytometry. On one hand, Gd3+and Nd3+have simular effect, which can induce cell apoptosis. On the other hand, Er3+and La3+have the inhibition effect of cell apoptosis. La3kills the293cells directly. In other words, La3+can be better anticancer drug.Gd3+,Nd3+,Er3+and La3+can’t make oxidative damage on the293cells DNA.The reseach provides some basic data for anti-cancer drug studies of rare earths.
