CNC turret as the core parts of CNC lathe, it’s performance has direct impact on lathe machining efficiency and accuracy. With the development of high-speed servo motor and it’s drive technology, servo motor-driven turret becomes a reality. Servo motor has replaced the preselectorl device, transmitter devices, simplifies the turret structure, improves the reliability of the turret and shortened tool changing time,greatly improves the performance of the turret. Motorized spindle is a recent high-tech products with small moment of inertia and fast response, compared with servo motor, the advantage of motorized spindle lies in it’s low speed high torque output, which can be directly driven turret and don’t need multistage gear reducer, so the structure of the turret can be further simplified, has a high application value. Therefore this paper dose some research about motorized spindle turret and the main contents as follows:Firstly, study the research situation of CNC turret, study the structure of some CNC turret at home and abroad, analyze the characteristics、applications、advantages and disadvantages of various structure, analyze the characteristics of motorized spindle and the feasibility to drive the turret.Secondly, learn from the structure of CNC turret at home and abroad, according to the motorized spindle it’s own structure and characteristics, design a horizontal CNC turret including detent mechanism, control devices, sealing device etc.The third, design the loosen and locking mechanisms of motorized spindle CNC turret, mainly design the hydraulic cylinder and calculate the parameters relevant with the hydraulic system of motorized spindle CNC turret, calculate the clamp force, chose suitable motorized spindle type.The fourth, study indexing techniques of motorized spindle CNC turret, Study tool identification methods and tool selection approach of CNC turret and analyze the two-way inversion and nearby change cutters theory, study the working principle of encoder and PLC, then compile PMC program about changing tools.The fifth, establish a motorized spindle CNC turret3D model with PRO/E, then import it into ADAMS, observe the motorized spindle CNC turret movement process, detecte motion curves of moving parts. In dynamics simulation, imitate the actual cutting process stress, measure the axial force of terminal gear disk in order to test and verify the clamp force.
