The rolling reheating furnace is important equipment used in the rolling production process, and its role is to reheat billet according to rolling rhythm, and make sure that the quality and temperature of billet reach the requirements of the subsequent billet rolling process. Thus the control effect of reheating furnace is essential, and the targets, such as quality and yields, are directly related to the temperature control effect of furnace and the degree of automation.The combustion control process of reheating furnace is extremely complex, including the temperature control and furnace pressure control. Combustion control process is a time varying nonlinear system with long time delay, great inertia characteristic, and strong coupling. Furthermore, the object model is too complicated to be established precisely. Conventional linear models and control methods cannot meet the basic needs of such a complex industrial process control system, and seeking a more accurate model and new intelligent control method is necessary. Aimed at the actual temperature control demand of reheating furnace and analyzing the achievement of internal and overseas research, this paper designs a temperature-gas flow cascade control system on the basis of fuzzy PID and Smith predictor. This paper also presents a new method to adjusting the air-fuel ratio, which is based on the gas analysis solution. These control measures help to improve the response speed of the system, overcome the effects of disturbance on the temperature control effectively. This method ensures the stability of the temperature control system, reduces oxidation burning loss of billet, lower fuel consumption, and achieves the desired control effect.According to the requirements of the reheating process flow and process technologic this paper expounds in detail of the design of the control system of the whole process and establishes the combustion cascade control system of reheating furnace combined with ControlLogix platform. To explore the effectiveness of the method, it uses OPC communication tool to connect the simulation software, and realizes the data transmission between PLC and Matlab simulation environment is established to study the control method. PLC combined with Matlab has the advantage of overcoming the difficulties of achieving intelligent control algorithm in PLC software effectively, and it is beneficial to the design and implementation of fault diagnosis and process control based on the complex control algorithm. This paper proposes a control system of reheating furnace combustion with the fuzzy PID and Smith predictor, and simulation of this control scheme compared with the traditional cascade PID control method. The simulation results shows that the scheme has excellent anti-interference ability, fast response, small overshoot, no steady-state error and other advantages, and it has better control effect than the conventional cascade control method. The reheating furnace combustion has a certain practical significance in control, and it can improve the quality of the furnace temperature control. All the results prove that the combustion control strategy has outstanding behaviors.
