With the rapid increase of social economy, our country demanding for more petrochemical products and investing more into manufacturing of large chemical equipment. The size of equipment is also becoming larger. Therefore, there’s a higher demand for large hoisting projects of towers. Due to the huge scale of crane, the cost for transportation and assembly of crane is very high. Therefore, using of assistant crane to lift the equipment will bring problems of inconvenience, longer lifting time and so on.In this paper, the construction organization applied a new type of tail slipping machine to hoist the propylene-propane knockout tower, which is its first use on hoisting projects in the world. Tail slipping crane uses the infrastructure of crane. It breaks through the limitations of traditional tail slipping work and blazes a new thought of tail slipping equipment. It can improve the working efficiency and reduce the cost of hoisting effectively. However, there are also some unreasonable factors. So, the stress test and the finite element analysis for the skirt at the bottom of equipment are conducted. The content of this study focuses on the following aspects:(1) A stress test for the skirt at the bottom of propylene-propane knockout tower is conducted on the scene and the stress state of each measuring point on each working condition is obtained;(2) According to the structure parameters of propylene-propane knockout tower, the finite element model of equipment for finite element analysis is built. The stress value of the model in positions of measuring points is extracted and compared with the results of stress test;(3) According to the conclusion of stress test and calculated value, some improvement suggestions for hoisting engineering are put forward combining with the phenomenon during the hoisting engineering.The stress state for the skirt of propylene-propane knockout tower is analyzed in detail in this paper through physical experiment and theoretical calculation. Combined with the data, the reason for special phenomenon during the hoisting engineering is explained. And some suggestions are put forward to optimize the new type of tail slipping machine and skirt structure. For the similar hoisting projects in the future, some reference can be provided from this paper.
