Foundry industry is one of the most energy consumption industry in our country, themain processes of casting production which need use energy are: molding and coremaking, smelting, fettling, and heat treatment of castings. Smelting is the highest energyconsumption of these processes, sometimes smelting process accounted for over50%ofthe total energy consumption of casting production. So this article research for energyconsumption of smelting process, and hope that through this research can guide thefoundry enterprises to find the suitable and feasible energy conservation methods,meanwhile provide technical basis of the energy consumption management for thefoundry enterprises.The most important link of this research is energy consumption data collection, thisarticle collect the date by enterprise investigation. The enterprise investigation in thispaper can be divided into three stages: preliminary investigation, questionnaireinvestigation and sampling investigation, after the three stages of investigation, statisticand arranging the information and data. Then analyze the influence of different materials,smelting equipments and energy saving measures on average energy consumption perunit qualified cast metal molten. Not only can this analysis provide the reference for theresearch of energy consumption of melting process, but also it can lay a foundation forthe determination of the corresponding index values.Based on the analysis of existing foundry industry energy consumption evaluationindex, this chapter determined to use average energy consumption per unit qualified castmetal molten as the energy consumption evaluation index of smelting procedure,.According to different casting materials and smelting equipment, classify the energyconsumption evaluation index in detail. At the same time three levels of the index valuesare approved: limit value, access values and advanced values, so that can meet the needsof different casting production enterprises. At last, the paper take cast iron smelting asthe example, to study the calculation of energy consumption of smelting process, and onthe basis of investigation and previous analysis ascertain each index of average energyconsumption per unit qualified cast metal molten.The final purpose of study on the energy consumption of smelting process, is to save energy and reduce consumption. This article through the analysis of structure,smelting characteristics, heat balance and energy consumption (energy) division ofsmelting equipment, explore effective ways to save energy, and provide the reference forthe foundry enterprise about energy consumption management.
