With the development of technology, the occasions of using the metals and the metalproducts in the industry are more. While with the widespread use of metal, the corrosionphenomena of metal occur more and more frequently. In the process of the advancement in thesciences technology, the hazards of the metal corrosion mainly reflect as, losses which causedby corrosion in the economy are increasing year by year, the safety accidents of using themetal in the industry happen frequently, and the waste of the metal resources is more and moreserious. Therefore, people have paid more and more attention to prevent metal corrosion inmany aspects. At the same time with the increase use of the metal in seawater, it has a crucialimportance that how to prevent metal corrosion effectively. In this paper, the principles of electrochemical corrosion of metal are understanded andstudied according to the electrochemical reaction principle of the metal in the electrolyte. Onthe basis of understanding the electrochemical corrosion, the impressed current cathodicprotection methord is analyzed through starting from the corrosion principle. According to thecommonly used three-electrode system of the impressed current cathodic protection method, use the ANSYS finite element analysis software, from the electrical view, to establish theequal size and the three-dimensional model of the cathodic protection system in ANSYS. Thenthe overall protential distribution, the potential distribution of an arbitrary cross-section, theimpact on the protential distribution caused by the relative position of the electrodes, and theimpact on the protential distribution caused by the depth of the electrode into the water aresimulated. A practical model is built based on the model used in the simulation, the potentialvalues on the actual path is measured in accordance with the path of simulation. Then theresults of the simulation and the actual measurements are imported into MATLAB, theaccuracy of the simulation results and the authenticity of the simulation conclusions areverified by using MATLAB to draw three-dimensional curved surface and thetwo-dimensional curves. In this paper, the simulation analysis is used with ANSYS software, so that the potentialdistribution of the electrodes when the metal in water is protected by the impressed currentcathodic protection gets a visual show. Meanwhile this paper uses the method of measuring the potential in different locations of different directions, so the potential distributioncharacteristics in different directions when metal is protected by the cathodic protection areshowed, and the effects on the overall potential distribution when changing the electrodesrelative positions and the electrode position are studied. It makes the simulation results and thepractical application combined more effectively, and provides the basis for optimizing thesystem.
