Because of the harsh marine environment, offshore platforms often suffer from the corrosion and damage under the physical and chemical effects. To ensure the security of the offshore platform during their service, anti-corrosion protection should be taken. Cathodic protection is for the structure underwater. Normally, cathodic protection is acquired by sacrificial anodes and impressed current. Based on the large-scaling and longer working life of the offshore platforms, the impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP), in contrast to the sacrificial anode cathodic protection, has more advantages in terms of both technology and economy. Therefore, the research on the ICCP of the offshore platforms will be great significant in practical engineering. In this paper, the design and realization of ICCP system of jacket platform is carried out based on the theories and the numerical simulations of cathodic protection. The tests in natural sea water of jacket platform model were carried out to do some research on properties of the auxiliary anode and assure the adaptability of ICCP system of jacket platform.Firstly, the theories and methods of cathodic protection are briefly introduced in this paper. And the compositions, the theories and different types systerms of ICCP are also informed.Meanwhile, this article takes jacket platform as the research object. Two protection programs are given according to DNV-RP-B401 and the numerical simulations of cathodic protection, making the jacket platform stay in a good condition. Some research on the key technologies for the ICCP are carried out, including the design of auxiliary anode, the package structure design of the reference electrode and the protection system of cable system and so on.Finally, tests in natural sea water of jacket platform model are carried out. The aims of the tests includes the protective effect of the jacket platform for a lasting period and the performance testing of auxiliary anode.
