In order to stabilize the solid and liquid substances in water gel explosives, get goodexplosive performance and storage stability, gel system with a stable network structure wasachieved by chemical crosslinking of gelling agents, crosslinking agents and water.Uniformity and stability of the entire system of water gel explosives have been guaranteed tomeet basic needs in practical applications, with good reliability.Study on stability of the gel system of water gel explosives has very importantsignificance for good explosive performance and storage stability. This paper has analyzed thecrystallization of ammonium nitrate (AN) and its principles, by optimizing the formulation tomaintain the stability of the gel system.By studying the viscosity of gelling agent sesbaniagum, the influence of various factors on the viscosity was made obvious to know, thepreparation. process of water gel explosives was improved. Details are as follows:(1) In addition to adding urea, sodium nitrate to form a eutectic mixture to reduce thecrystallization point ofAN, in order to solve the problem ofAN crystallization, by adding2.5%glycol to improve the anti-freeze performance and reduce greatly the trend of freezingand hardening, in essence, theAN crystallization has been greatly eased. In addition to addingcryoprotectants glycol, crystal control agent dextrin has also a good effect to enhance theanti-crystallization performance of water gel explosives, addition amount of0.1%. Synergismbetween the two has eased greatlyAN crystallization, and not diminished the explosiveperformance of water gel explosives.(2) Before crosslinking, a detailed study on viscosity of gelling agent sesbania gum hasbeen conducted. Various factors, almost all in preparation of water gel explosives, includingconcentration, swelling hydration time, the degree of dispersion, the rotational speed,temperature, PH, salts concentration, were analyzed in detail. The specific steps and othermatters that require attention process of preparation were identified. Chemical cross-linking of Sesbania Gum with potassium dichromate/borax as crosslinking agent, has made the watergel explosive system more stable and played a crucial role in preventingAN crystallization,stable bubbles and water-resistant.
