As a kind of high efficient and economic load facilities, LNG storages are gradually developed because of surging energy demand and intense contradiction between energy supply and demand. Chengdu LNG storage is located in Mengyang Town of Pengzhou. It is mainly used as the emergency stockpile in an extreme abnormal case, which provides guarantees for the basic gas supply of Chengdu. Meanwhile, it plays a role in seasonal peak shaving and it is taken as the standby soure when there is something wrong with the regional main pipelines. In addition, the storage provides market distribution services, namely to supply LNG for LNG stations and LNG gasification stations to meet the growing market demand of gases. However, there are great potential safety hazards in the process of LNG production, storage and transportation due to the inflammability and explosiveness of LNG. And there would be huge losses once an accident happened. Therefore, it is necessary to make an risk evaluation of Chengdu LNG storage.In this paper, the risk analysis and evaluation of Chengdu LNG storage is carried out on the basis of large amount of literature research and in combination with its practical situation. Starting from the characteristics of LNG and the processes and equipments of Chengdu LNG storage, the potential hazards and their dangerous properties are analyzed and perils which are likely to happen in the LNG storage are summarized. Besides, we establish the fault tree models of major accidents and make the qualitative analysis to figure out the causes of the major accidents. According to the result of hazards identification, the security evaluation index system of the LNG storage is built. Next, the quantitative risk evaluation of the LNG storage is conducted by using Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation Method and Analytic Hierarchy Process, of which the result is "safe". At the end of this paper, the corresponding safety measures are put forward based on the above research results and the current situation of Chengdu LNG storage.In this paper, the qualitative and quantitative risk assessment of Chengdu LNG storage is completed, which provides decision-making basis for risk control and risk management measures. And it is of great importance for improving the safety and reliability of the LNG storage and the stability of gas supply for Chengdu and surrounding areas.
