China is a large typical coal country, not only in terms of abundance reserves, but also in terms of resource consumption. Since the reform and opening up policy, with the introduction and development of advanced technology, mining technology has been developed rapidly, the production of coal has increased significantly, while conducting coal preparation process transformation and adjustment, the yield and quality of clean coal have a good guarantee. However, at the same time of developing the coal industry chain, coal gangues, tailings and some other wastes in traditional sense are pressing a significant role in the destruction of environment.Currently,the utilized gangues and coal preparation plant tailings are merely a small part, in China, the main ways of gangues utilization are underground filling, producing building materials, extracting raw chemical materials.The research of gangues in our country has achieved impressive achievement, however, the utilization of the remaining portion of tailings after selecting in coal preparation plants does not have a optimistic outcome. First of all, a lot of domestic coal preparation plant managers have not pay enough attention to the part of the resource utilization, in many cases, it will be mixed with coal products to sold, or directly as waste emissions transported to tailings; and secondly, the domestic and international researches on coal preparation plant produces are relatively simple and obvious, a lot of the early researches achievement have not been applied to actual production. In this paper, we mainly focus on the nature and practical applications of the flotation tailings in coal preparation plant. We selected flotation tailings in Liyazhuang coal preparation plant of Huozhou as our experimental simple, mainly exploring the major chemical components in coal sample, as well as the active substance of SiO2and Al2O3contents, and on this basis, we continued to study the effects of different heating temperature, heating time,particle size composition and chemically modifying on the active substance content variation. The activity of SiO2and Al2O3are referred to the section of dissolving in solution with other substances and are capable of participating in chemical reactions. According to the existing researches, the content of the two substances decide the value and utilization of coal gangue, the same situation can be inferred when comes to flotation tailings, we speculate that the content of the two substances has a vital status in coal preparation plant Tailings; then we study the Zeta potential of tailings,which is a critical issue on coal utilization because the particle Zeta potential value determines the difficulty degree in mixing with other substances. According to these experiments, we get the following conclusions:1.The active substance content increasing significantly after the flotation tailings has been heated at the temperature of600~800℃. The optimum heating treatment temperature in this experiment is about750℃, the heating time is three hours.2.When the heating temperature is700℃, the heating time is about0.5h, the water hardness is150mg/L, the pH is7,the absolute value of surface potential can achieve the maximum, in another way,get a good nature in dispersibility thus is more suitable to mix with other materials.3.Better test results of modified tailings can be obtained when using CaSO4, CaO. Optimum test conditions are as following:mass ratio of coal, CaSO4and CaO is20:1:1-20:1:2, and the calcination temperature is750℃, the calcination time is3.5h.
