Wuhu, a city in Anhui province, was opened as a trade port in 1876. After that, the trade of Wuhu city developed rapidly and the modern industry began to arise. Wuhu city and the Wanjiang area was increasingly becoming an interrelated whole. On the one hand, the development of Wuhu was inseparable from the Wanjiang area, especially the support of the vast rural area; on the other hand, the improvement of Wanjiang area also needed the help of Wuhu city. The development of Wuhu made it have a model and radiation effects, further influenced the rural economic development of Wanjiang area, so that the linkage between rural and urban areas was strengthened, the natural economy was disintegrating slowly, at the same time, the commodity economy developed progressively, specifically manifested in the areas of production, personnel mobility, the strengthened connection of farmers and market.This paper mainly discusses the interaction between Wuhu city and the Wanjiang area. The paper is divided into five parts. The introduction mainly talks about the academic history related to the topic and the purpose and significance of the paper. Chapter I mainly introduces the geographical location, climatic condition and property distribution of Wuhu city and Wanjiang area and the definition of Wanjiang area. Chapter II mainly discusses the industrial and commercial development of modern Wuhu city. Chapter III mainly explores the impact of modern Wuhu city on rural economy of Wanjiang area, specifically discusses from the following points: the rural economy of Wanjiang area before the year of 1876, the change of production after Wuhu city was opened as port, population mobility, the prosperity of towns and the closer ties between farmers and market. Chapter IV mainly summarizes the difficult development of China's rural society and the imbalance of urban and rural development, further reflects the factors which influence the modernization of Wanjiang area.
