In recent years, along with the increase of convenient transportation, information networking and the number of owning cars and license, people have no longer been satisfied with traditional way of traveling, the personality of travel needs became much stronger. So the drive-travel emerged and become a new way of tourism. The tourists of drive-travel gradually become the main tourism consumers. At the same time, the study on drive-travel tourists demand becomes an important content of tourism research.As a beautiful tourism city, Dalian has the abundant resources and the good environment for tourism. The conditions of location, traffic, environment and city construction attract a lot of tourists. It is one of the destinations for drive-travel tourists. This paper uses the methods of qualitative analysis and literature analysis to summarize the achievements in the field of drive-travel and tourism demand. On the basic of the existing market data of Dalian and the first-hand data get by questionnaire survey and street interviews, summarize the characteristic of drive-travel tourists'demand, and put forward some corresponding suggestions and strategies.This paper consists of six parts. Part 1:Introduce the research background, significance, methods and route of the paper. Part 2:A literature review of relevant concepts and the definition of basic concepts. Part 3:Enumerate tourism attractions and basic supply-situation of Dalian from the tourism resources, regional location and drive-travel organizations. Part 4:Collect data by questionnaire survey to analysis tourists'basic characteristics, behavior characteristics and satisfaction. In accordance with the analysis we reach the demand characteristic of drive-travel tourists to Dalian. Part 5:Based on the analysis, propose the specific suggestions for tourism department to improve and develop the drive-travel tourism market of Dalian. Part 6:Conclusion and deficiencies of this paper.Conclusions:(1) As a new way of tourism, drive-travel develops rapidly and has tremendous market potentials. (2) Due to the special geographical position, its main tourist-guest source is the three northeast provinces in china, and the motivation for most tourist is leisure sightseeing. (3) The drive-travel organization of Dalian does not play its role and does not realize its function; the majority of visitors knows it but did not take part in it. (4)The base installations like the Motel suiting for a drive-travel are not perfectly developed. (5) Because of the differences of tourists' character, the demand will be diversity, overall, most people reflect that the admission price is too high and parking is not convenient. Many visitors prefer scenic spot of natural landscape and the well-known scenic spot developed for drive-travel.This paper fills the blank of research on urban drive-travel tourists'demand, has a further understanding of tourists'demand and exploits the potential market for Dalian. Also, it will provide reference information for tourism department and enterprises to develop tourism products, and improve the competitiveness of Dalian tourism market.
