This thesis, concentrating on the influences of advanced sci-tech culture on Modern Barter, talks about traditional barter, Modern Barter, science and technology, and the sci-tech culture. The concept of barter can be traced back to the earliest human life and productive activities. It is the most primitive form of transaction, and this mode had been widely used before the invention of currency. After the appearance of currency, traditional barter was less used. However, barter has never been completely out of the historical stage since its birth, further more, it keeps on evolving along with the development of economy and technology. Monetary economy also has its shortcoming, while the emergence of Modern Barter just overcomes the limitations of money.Modern Barter is the revolutionary innovation of traditional barter. Breaking limitation of goods-for-goods transaction, Modern Barter not only engages on tangible products but also expands transaction to intangible products such as service, patented technology, etc. Modern Barter improves efficiency by breaking through the limitations of traditional barter, which not only expands the scope of tradable products, but also extends the spatial coverage of transaction. The development of science and technology created the environment for E-business. E-barter, as part of E-business, is becoming part of business culture today. Meanwhile, sci-tech culture has a pushing effect on the development of Modern Barter. It combines the primitive form of transaction with Internet, breaks through the one-to-one bartering mode, and makes one-to-group bartering mode possible, which is a great advancement in the barter field.Based on extensive literature, this thesis conducts a comparative analysis between the traditional barter and Modern Barter. In light of current economic environment, a systematic introduction of Modern Barter is conducted on its emergence and development. Uneven development of economy and shortage of funds made Modern Barter came into being. Then, science and technology and sci-tech culture is mentioned, and Modern Barter under scientific and technological environment shows features of globalization, multilateral trading, networking, etc. Besides, the Internet and the process of E-barter transaction are discussed. Seeing from cultural perspective, the transition from traditional barter to Modern Barter is actually a transition from traditional culture to modetn culture. Finally, it concludes that Modetn Barter will become more and more popular in future.
