SMEs are playing an important role in Chinese economy nowadays. How to foster and enhance the core competence of SMEs, and make the SMEs develop rapidly with health and regulation, has long been a question concerned by the government, entrepreneurs and academia. This thesis, which starts from how to cultivate the core competence of SMEs and exemplified by SMEs of Dalian, analyses the possibility, necessity of cultivating and enhancing the core competence of SMEs in China, facing problems and the coping strategies comprehensively as a system, and provides a reference for the SMEs in China to obtain more competitive advantages in a complex domestic and international business surroundings.This thesis is consisted of four parts:The first part is a preview of the fundamental theories. We firstly define the meaning, features and functions of SMEs, and then introduce the theoretic meaning of core competence and a summary of related researches, from all this, the author will define what is the core competence of SMEs in China. It's thought that the core competence of SMEs is formed by managing and integrating both internal and external resources, which is different from competitors, and will be sustainable competitive advantage.The second part gives an analysis of the current situation of the core competitiveness of SMEs in China in detail. On the international stage, the competence of Chinese enterprises are not in advantage for a long history, which's a fact that cannot be deniable. This situation is mainly caused by historical, institutional, technical, and ideological reasons. Furthermore, the cumulation of these reasons also makes it hard to cultivate core competence of SMEs in current situations.The third part is the focus of this thesis. To cope with so many problems faced by SMEs in China nowadays, the thesis suggests that they should take the following measures to integrate enterprise resources. First, they should pay more attention on cultivating internal human resources. People is the principal part of an enterprise, promoting the development of human resources pressingly, then it is possible to cultivate the core competence of SMEs. Second, the author offers the following practical methods for cultivating core competence of SMEs in order, they are enhancing enterprises'ability of technical innovation, building a reasonably organized structure, raising entrepreneurial spirit, fostering excellent corporate culture, establishing scientific financial management institution and so on.The last part is a case study. It's exemplified by an enterprise in Dalian. The author analyses both the advantages and disadvantages of the enterprise concretely, and makes her own creative ideas and suggestions based the weaknesses of this enterprise. This part is an application of the theory declared by this thesis. Only from this part, readers will know whether the theory as said above is right, or can it serve the development of SMEs.In summary, this thesis researches how to cultivate the core competence of SMEs through theoretic analysis, comparative analysis, and case study. The author hopes that this thesis can offer a help for the rapid development of SMEs.
