Container stowage problem mainly determines the location of containers on the containership when loading operation happens in different ports. Container stowage plan is based on the essential principles of security including stability, intensity, trim and so on. The quality of container stowage plan has a direct effect on ship security and efficiency of terminal loading and uploading operation. The study on container stowage problem can be widely applied in modern port management and container shipping.Optimization of container stowage plan is a multi-objectives combinatorial optimization with complex constraints. It's very difficult for only computer to solve all problems because it can hardly simulate experience and thinking of humans during solving process. In most of the existing stowage system, the staffs have to do a lot of work of container adjustment with the auxiliary of computer. This thesis mainly discusses the problem of container ship's intelligent stowage pr-oblem. It builds a integer programming model that loading at one port and unloading at the other ports. The objective function of the model is minimization of the number of s-hifts and the constraints of the model is that GM, trim and strength can ensure the ship's safe navigation. This thesis take a container ship with the capacity of 3000 TEU for exa-mple, considering different types of containers and hatch and making the constraints and the experience of the stowage staff as the rule to obtain the initial feasible solution. Then it get the initial feasible solution using Visual Basic programming language and get the optimal solution by GA. Last, the thesis validates the feasibility of the model and algorithm by the simulation of stowage.
