Technology Acquisition Channels In Technology Sourcing FDI

The ability of independent innovation has been the main bottleneck in the development of Chinese manufacturer industry.To improve China's manufacturing technology and grasp the advanced manufacturing technology, we need national policy support and,more importantly,the enterprise-self efforts.Among ways of technological upgrading means, the external technology acquisition is an important one of technological accumulation.There is a lot of successful research and practice of business about the external technology acquisition home and abroad. However, with world economy increasingly opening, multinational enterprises are running on a broad technical rivalry in competitive environment which is making tremendous changes. Thus, it is a relatively new subject that how to use the favorable opportunity to source technology in the process of foreign direct investment, which is more practical and instructive for Chinese manufacturer to overcome technical barriers.From the perspective of foreign direct investment, combined with the practice of Chinese manufacturing enterprises in the course of international operations, this article points out significance of technology sourcing FDI for Chinese manufacturing technology level. On the basis of research about technology-acquisition FDI and external access technology, the article constructs the type of the technology acquisition channels,including technical talents, information acquisition, enterprise upstream and downstream contact, imitation and follow,competitive factors, local management consulting or technology intermediary company and host research institutions. Based on theoretical discussions of technology acquisition channels and empirical analysis methods such as case study, questionnaire survey and so on, the article fully affirmed the technology acquisition channels, and points out the factors in the process of using these technology acquisition channels,including access to homeland national policy, enterprise management strength, technology absorption capacity,technical protection policies and enterprise's technical restricting measures in the host country. Finally, we suggest that,in the process of technology sourcing FDI, Chinese manufacturing enterprises should pay more attention on feasibility analysis in technology acquisition, enhancement in absorbing capacity,adopting diversified technology acquisition means and avoiding legal disputes in the process of technology acquisition.
