Since the reform and opening up, China's economy has sustained rapid growth for many years and has made many achievements which attracted attention from the entire world. But the economic growth pattern of our country remains the extensive characteristic. From the economic growth pattern, the rapid development of the overall economy is built on the huge consumption of resources and based on sacrificing the ecological environment, which has already challenged the sustainable development strategy of economic and social. Therefore, the sustainable economic development strategy requires must change extensive economic growth pattern.Based on overview of the economic growth theory, we research the actual economic situation and describe the extensive economic growth characteristic. Then do empirical analysis. Based on the theory of soft input, we analysis the loss of resources and then through a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis approach to do empirical analysis. We assess the resources loss problem of the extensive economic growth by measuring the loss of output and the degree of potential release of Chinese economy under the constraints of the soft input. On the basis of the evidence, we explore the factors which impact the resources loss of extensive economic growth, and propose measures to transform the economic growth pattern in order to reduce resources loss and improve the combination quality of soft input.By combining theoretical and empirical research, we conclude that the theory has great significance in sustainable development, transformation of economic growth pattern and could improve the combination quality of the soft input.
