In recent years, the frequent natural disasters blocked our nation's economic development, and caused a major disaster to people's life and property. At the same time, a lot of emergency materials which are the basis of relief work and basic security are inevitably required to handle the natural disasters. However, the development of Emergency Logistics in China is still in its infancy. Also there are many problems such as non-uniform of the demand classification for emergency supplies, no clear amount of the demand for the emergency materials and so on. So it is essential to research on the classification and the amount of the demand for emergency materials, in order to improve the effect of handling natural disasters.The objects of this paper are the classification and the amount of the demand for disaster emergency materials and other involved issues. At the beginning, it studied on the classification of the demand for emergency materials, analyzed the problems of classification, and proposed the methods of classifying which were based on the application and the levels of the emergency materials. The paper proposed an idea to grade the demand of emergency materials, which is based on the functional classification of the materials. After that a system of grading the demand of emergency materials is established with the method of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation to grade and then got the levels of demanding. Secondly, the paper studied on the total amount of emergency materials demand, by analyzing the disaster types, the intensity of disasters, disasters season, the types of materials and the affected numbers. All these factors are related to the demand of emergency materials for post-disaster. A conceptual model of the demand for post-disaster emergency supplies is designed, and the model would provide the basis for the calculation of reserve point demand. At the study of reserve point demand, according to the theory of universal gravitation model, the paper proposed a Gravity index model for disaster areas and reserve point demand. Before creating the model, the paper inevitably analyzed some factors such as the reserve capacity at the reserve point and the proximity to the disaster areas, which may effect selecting the reserve point and the amount of demand. After the model is created, a index model about reserve capacity and distance at reserve point is created by analyzing the factors of demand effects. Finally, the reserve point calculation model for demand was created, which provided basis for the management of emergency materials and improved the emergency treatment effect. The model is validated through the empirical analysis and can support the management of emergency materials in order to improve the effect of handing emergency.
