International maritime transportation of dry bulk cargo mainly through the form of tramp to achieve, with the economic development of countries in the world, increasing the demand of dry bulk cargo, the international dry bulk shipping market is also expanding its size and the trade of the dry bulk occupies an important position and share in the global seaborne trade market. In all kinds of dry bulk carriers, the dry bulk carriers of Panamax have been an important part of the international shipping fleet. The tonnage of Panamax in 60000 to 100000 metric tons dead weight, is the best carrier from the Atlantic to the Pacific through the Panama Canal, have been widely used in the coal, iron ore, grain, fertilizer and other dry bulk transportation. In recent years, with the rapid development of the domestic economy in India, the trade of Indian dry bulk shipping has maintained a strong momentum of growth. Indian domestic demand for electricity and industrial development maintain a strong demand of coal, to make up for huge gap between domestic coal supply shortages and growing demand, India needs to import large quantities of coal from abroad every year. India is an important iron ore exporter in the world, and China is India's largest iron ore importer, for the geographical advantages, Indian iron ore exportation accounted for a large share of Chinese iron ore importation, and plays an extremely important role. Connecting the Atlantic and Pacific, Indian Ocean plays as a fulcrum, and its seasonal characteristics plays an important role in the changing situation of global maritime trade. For the factor of huge volume, stable supply and the long transportation time, we can't attach too much importance on the optimization of ships routing in dry bulk maritime transportation. This article begin with the conditions of Indian main dry bulk production and trading, combining with the basic situation of India major dry bulk ports, analysis the main characteristics and problems of Indian Ocean dry bulk shipping market, research and discuss the Indian Ocean ships routing and the design of routes, provide some theoretical support to shipping companies for carrier allocation and the optimization of routes, to reduce operational risks in the maritime transportation tramp market, and achieve the maximum overall efficiency of the fleet.
