| The US and Europe are the biggest two advanced economic actors in the world, and their trade relationship makes both of them the most important in the word. After World Warâ…¡, the US and Europe's trade relationships have experienced a very long period of honeymoon. And along with America's superiority has been declining, Europe started to unite and became a quite strong opponent to America. The Trade frictions between US and Europe have been changing along with the evolution of the international politic and economic situations, and presented different characteristics in the different periods. This thesis attempts to analyze the trade frictions between US and Europe during the Doha Development Round, their new characteristics in new area, and how they effect the Doha Development Round. The introduction, the first chapter of this thesis, generally illustrates its research purpose and value, the review of literatures on the trade frictions between US and Europe, the research method, and its main points of view and innovation. The second chapter mainly provides a background for this article, that is, briefly reviews the US and Europe trade frictions after World Warâ…¡. The third chapter elaborates the trade frictions between US and Europe during Doha development round, and analyze the differences appeared under the new background. The fourth chapter attempts to analyze the reasons of the trade frictions between US and Europe, based on their economic development's difference, the political benefit's difference, and the ideology and values' difference. From the economic aspect, first of all, there are differences between US and Europe's economic development situations, and they have all the different economic priorities. Second of all, they have different economic development patterns. And, US advocates the economic liberalism and the European Union advocates the more government intervention. The different economic development patterns advocate different types of trading, then, the frictions are unavoidable. Finally, both US and Europe are seeking to get the leading position in the world and their frictions become inevitable. From the political aspect, more and more trade frictions are caused by political considerations. The political situations in the world are changing quickly, and a country's priority changes with it too. All these variations may be reflected in trade relationships. In addition, there are many different political parties fighting for their interests which could provoke trade frictions too. From the ideology aspect, the US and Europe not only have many same origins, but also have many differences. Different values, different consumption concepts and so on could affect the trade relationships and cause their trade frictions.Based on above chapters, the conclusion of the thesis is:The trade relationships between US and Europe are complicated, and their trade frictions are only one side of them. The US and Europe have so many resemblance in economical, political and ideological aspects. They have the common goals, and face the new situation that some newly-emerging nations are becoming strong and threaten, so they have to cooperate to deal with it. The trade frictions between US and Europe are one of the reasons that the Doha development round has no breakthrough until now. As developed country's main representative, the US and Europe should realize that, in the Doha development round, the trade frictions between the developed countries are not lower than the ones between the developed countries and the developing countries. If they want to obtain the new opportunities and more benefits in the 21 century, they have to make more concessions for each other, for Doha's success. |
