Since the 21st century, the worldwide semiconductor foundries have been faced more and more fierce competitions. Along with the boom-bust cycle declining and frequency of fluctuation keeping rising, this industry has ushered in an era of meager profit inevitably. Numerous foundries in china are gradually changing their corporate positioning on product technology to low-end analog power device and picking a strategic route of cost leadership under economies of scale. It has become, therefore, a crucial task or mission for any foundry to meet the challenge of the recession by answering the question of how to seize the transient and precious boom period, maximize the increasing of original productivity and win more revenue reserve and customer confidence as well.In this paper, the 6-sigma thinking is introduced as guideline. By implementing its methodology and tools, considering the BPSG bottleneck tools in foundry A as research subjects, from this single point of view, discussing the ways and means of effective capacity improvement of foundries. Through a layered approach to three perspectives as tool's available time, production capacity and product line yield, the possibility of enhancing the effective capacity is stepwisely analyzed and finally achieved. This research lays a solid foundation and provides a reliable guarantee for A company's successful operation under the circumstance of production capacity shortage. It also provides other related enterprises an actual reference in their manufacturing.
