Agriculture is the foundation of national economy. Hexi Area is the largestcommodity grain base in Gansu Province and a major one in the country. Soagriculture plays a very important role in the national economy of Hexi Area. But thegrowth and development of agricultural largely depend on the technical progress andenhancement of technological efficiency. This dissertation tries to make a simpleanalysis which is based on the combination of the status quo, with the perspective ofinput-output, the Solow's method which calculates the contribution of technologicalprogress factor to the growth of Hexi Area's agricultural economy, and the stochasticfrontier production function - SFA model - which measures technical efficiency ofagricultural economic growth of Hexi Area.The dissertation consists of six chapters: Chapter One describes thebackground and significance of this study and an overview of the study area. ChapterTwo is the research review on technological progress and technical efficiency ofagriculture economic growth. Chapter Three is the basic economic theories relevantto this study; Chapter Four and Five are analysis on the technological progress andthe technical efficiency in the agriculture growth of Hexi Area. Finally, the article'sconclusions and recommendations will be elucidated in the chapter six.The main part of the article is Chapter Four and Five. In Chapter Four, wechoose the samples on input and output from1998 to 2007, and then utilize theSolow's method based on C-D production function to deal with the time series datafor the 10 years of the Hexi Area Region. The technological progress in this periodis 74.78%. The contribution to agriculture growth is great. Chapter Five usesstochastic frontier production function to estimates the agricultural technicalefficiency of the same 10 years. The result shows that the average technical efficiencywithin the boundaries of Hexi Area is 0.82348, which is to say the technicalefficiency of agricultural growth in general is comparatively high and the regionaltechnical efficiency is relatively balanced. At the same time, a comparative analysisabout the agriculture technical efficiency between the former 5 years and the latterone during 1998-2007 was formulated. It is showed that the technical efficiency inHexi Area is falling, apart from a few blocks.
