In the course of construction of the Pearl River Delta modern industrial system, industrial robot as an advanced manufacturing technology and a type of automation equipment, not only plays an important role in the development of the advanced manufacturing industry, but also has a significant promoting function for the development of high-tech industries and traditional industries. In the 21st century, with unprecedented opportunities and challenges in the robot market, to make great efforts to promote technological innovation has become the core method for the industrial robots development. However, as an emerging high-tech and intelligent industry, industrial robot industry has shown the general features: high investment, high risk, high return, high tech, high difficulty, high potential and so on. How scientifically and reasonable regulate the technology innovation of Pearl River Delta region industrial robot industry and to avoid innovation risk have become the most pressing problems. Technology Roadmapping, as an effective management tool for technology innovation planning and support, is especially applicable to explore the dynamic relationship between technical resources, organizational goals and changing environments. Therefore, to make rational application of this technology management tool, Technology Roadmapping, has great strategic significance to promote comprehensive development of Pearl River Delta region industrial robotics industry.This paper first briefly discusses the research background and objectives and research routes and methods. The author makes theoretical analysis of Technology Roadmapping from the definition, the content, the development process, the application and other relevant aspects. In the other hand, the paper realizes a whole analysis on the industry status of Pearl River Delta industrial robot industry. The macro-environment study of Pearl River Delta region's industrial robot industry is realized from three factors: the geographical distribution characteristics, the characteristics of the main users of industrial robots and the industrial structure features. The Background environment analysis confirms the innovation promoting function, industrial systems driving effect and the strategic position of the industrial robot industry. The author proposes the main problems along industrial development, makes analysis and affirms the necessity and the feasibility of developing the Technology Roadmap. With depth analysis of industry status, combined theories, the paper expands on the design of Pearl River Delta industrial robot industry Technology Roadmap, including: development content design, implementation process design and implementation progress design and draws a initial picture of the Pearl River Delta industrial robot industry technology roadmap, which as a macro blueprint, plans the industrial technology development in five areas: "Strategic objectives", "Market demands", "Main products", "Critical technologies" and "Resource supports". In the end, in order to effectively ensure the completion of Technology Roadmap development, the paper makes scientific prediction of the risks which may be encountered during the implementation process, and provides prevention measures.This paper systematically analyzes the status of Pearl River Delta region industrial robot industry, and on this basis, combined with industry Technology Roadmapping theoretical research, makes comprehensive design for the development of the Pearl River Delta industrial robot industry and draws blueprint for the development of macro-industry technology. It is of great practical significance and application value to promote regional industrial robot industry upgrading, and even to accelerate the country's advanced manufacturing industry.
