The Influence Of International Trade Structure On Patent Quantity Based On The Analysis Of Technological Spillover Effect

The technological innovation doesn't only depend on the research and development ability of enterprises, but also relay on the absorption and use of international technological spillover. As to the developing countries which have weak technological innovation ability, the spillover effect exerted by international trade is deeper. It is of great significance to explore the influence of international trade on the technological innovation.This paper first elaborates on the meaning, background and problems of analysis, reviews and combs the relevant papers from home and abroad, defines the international trade and its structure, and describes the current situation of international trade structure. Using methods of unit root test, cointegration test, and least squared regression, this paper empirically analyzes the influence of international commodity trade and service trade on the patent quantity with corresponding datum from 1991 to 2007 as the sample.Our analysis shows that both commodity trade and service trade have positive influence on patent quantity. The elastic efficient of commodity trade is 0.23, while that of service trade is just 0.02, much smaller. Our analysis further shows that as classified according to the mode of trade, the improvement trade, with elastic efficient as 0.73, has bigger positive influence on the patent quantity than general trade. And as classified according to the commodity structure, the hi-tech products have significantly positive effect with elastic coefficient as 0.33; and its influence on the design patent is biggest, with elastic coefficient as 1.15. While the influence of manufactured products and primary products are not significant. Labor intensive service trade has negative influence on patent quantity, the elastic efficient is -0.026. while the capital intensive service trade and technology and knowledge intensive service trade have positive influence on the patent quantity, with elastic efficient as 0.029å'Œ0.058 respectively. The patents are further specified into inventions, utility and design patent, we find seen from the horizontal level, technology and knowledge service trade has the biggest influence on the invention; and seen from the vertical level, the three kinds of service trade has bigger technological effect on the design patents than on the other patens.Based on the previous analysis work, this paper summarizes the influence condition of international trade on the patents, and puts forward relevant suggestions about the international structure, especially the development and plan of capital intensive service trade and technology and knowledge intensive service trade.
