Research On The Classification And Determinants Of Absorptive Capacity

With the degree of global economy integration deepened, companies would have a say on the international market only when controlling patent technology and core resources. Because the rate of technological change and update is at an increasing rate, as the largest developing country, how do we catch up and continue to narrow the gap in technology with developed countries determines the international status of our products and economic strength. Organizational absorptive capacity made since the nineties has been widely applied to the study of new technologies and knowledge. Facing rapidly changing technology, how do firms identify, assimilate and exploit this new technologies and knowledge has become extremely important. In this whole process the most critical is absorptive capacity of firms. It enables companies to effectively find the targeted external technology and knowledge, making them part of the companies and finally used in commercial purpose. But the effect of absorption capacity is influenced by many factors, which brings theoretical research and business practice difficulties.Based on reviewing the extensive literature, this article will make a summary and conclusion on absorptive capacity self-influence factors. Then it will analyze the measurement of these factors. On the basis of previous studies, this article will develop a model framework of relationship between factors and different kinds of absorption capacity. The framework consists of two kinds of variables and the corresponding relationship, the result variable (AC for intra-industry knowledge, AC for for inter-industry knowledge, and AC for scientific knowledge), the antecedent variable (R&D activities, related prior knowledge and individual's skills, organizational structure and human resource management). The purpose is to explain them how various factors affect the absorption capacity.This article chooses the equipment manufacturing industry of Shenyang as the research object to conduct empirical research. Through questionnaire analysis, the results are as follows: the influence factors of R&D activities, related prior knowledge and individual's skills, organizational structure and human resource management, all have a direct influence to the three kinds of absorptive capacity. However, the intensity of R&D activities only affects the absorptive capacity for science knowledge and the collaboration of different apartments has a negative impact on absorptive capacity for intra-industry knowledge.
