Abstract/Summary:
The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between physical self-esteem and life satisfaction of urban low-income residents in China according to Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory and Cognitive Psychological Stress Theory. Therefore, according to the relevant information from the Labour and Social Security Bureau in Tianjin, we use two conditions—the line of Minimum wage and per capita living expenses of 10% the lowest income families from the Department of Statistics'urban residents sample surveys—as a criterion to define low-income people and choose low-income residents from 10 districts in Tianjin as samples (693). We use scale measurement method and Physical Self-perception Profile (PSPP) by Fox et al (1989,1990) as a physical self-esteem measurement tool, and General Life Satisfaction Scale by Leungh and Leungh (1992) as a life satisfaction measurement tool and Social Support Rating Scale by Shuiyuan Xiao of Hunan Medical University as a social support measurement tool to measure the situation of the urban low-income people's physical self-esteem, social support and life satisfaction. We obtain the low-income people's basic situation through the self-made questionnaire. In this study, using the comparison of the mean, variance analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, we investigate that physical self-esteem and social support have effect on life satisfaction of urban low-income people. The results and conclusions of the study are as follows:1. The correlation between urban low-income people's all dimensions of physical self-esteem and life satisfaction is significant except old age group. The correlation between the old people's self-worth and life satisfaction is significant, while there is no significant correlation between other factors and life satisfaction. Among urban low-income people, the main scale of physical self-esteem the middle-age group's the correlation between self-worth and life significant is the weakest. The correlation coefficient was significantly lower than the old age group in the urban low-income population. Among the urban low-income population, there are significant differences between the middle-age people's the sense of value of physical self-esteem and that of the old age group. The middle-age is significantly higher than the old age. In terms of the correlation of exercise capacity, physical attractiveness, physical qualities and life satisfaction, there are significant difference between the young and the old.2. Among the urban low-income people, women are significantly higher than men, in terms of correlation coefficient of physical states, dimensionalities of physical attractiveness and life satisfaction in physical self-esteem. In terms of the correlation between the exercise capacity, physical attractiveness and physical attractiveness and life satisfaction, are significantly higher than the young men. The correlation between urban low-income female people's physical states physical attractiveness and life satisfaction is significant.3. In terms of subjective effects, there are significant differences on gender effects. Men get subjective effects more often than women. In terms of objective effects, there are significant differences on age effects. After further research, the study shows that the number of urban low-income old people is significantly higher than that of the middle-age and the youth.4. The correlation between all dimensionalities of social support and life satisfaction is rather high.
