Based on the classical SCP(Structure-Conduct-Performance) paradigm in industry organization theory, market structure affect market performance by influencing market conduct. Adjusting market structure is an important way to improve market performance. Concentration is the first-line measure of market structure indicators ,the level of industrial concentration and the determinants of changes in industrial economics has been an important aspect of the study.Our country produce and consume coal in large quantities, But we are still not a great power, compared with the main coal producing countries, our coal industry has great number of problems, one of the them is the industry concention is low ,the coal industry need large scale coal corporation which has big occupation in market and high competitiveness in the world.How to improve the concentration of coal industry so that our coal industry shift it's ground from a big coal production country to a strong one is the problem we are facing now. This paper make an empirical analysis of market structure in coal industry to offer reference to set industrial policy for the sound and fast development of our coal industry.The thesis summarize the state of the field at home and abroad ,make research about the theory of market structure and market concentration, on that basis, link the theory of industry organization with the econometrics method and methods of statistics,make conclusion about the development history of coal industry, and study coal industry market structure from the side of the difference in production,barrier to entry and barrier to quit,and study the actuality and history of coal industry concentration, then analysis the factors affecting concentration in our coal industry with the aid of and the statistical software, and establish the quantitative relations between concentration and the forepart concentration, barrier to entry, capacity of the market and the expansion power factors, and table proposals to improve coal industry concentration in the end.
