A Study On The Countermeasures Of Ecological Fishery In Lake Taihu

Lake Taihu, located in the delta of the Yangtze River, is the third largest freshwater lake in China. The lake looks like a shallow basin, with the surface water area of 2338.1 km2 and an average water depth less than 2 m. It not only has been the resources of life water and irrigation, ship, tour and breed aquatics, but also has been a famous fishery base in China with high fish catches of 33242 ton in 2004 and rich of various fish species of 107 fish species and subspecies recorded in terms of past surveys. But recent years, with the environment getting worse such as over fishing, founding of embankments and dams and eutrophication, fish fauna has changed. The fishery in the lake has showed the phenomenon of miniaturization. There have already been lots of reports on Lake Taihu fishery, but these reports mainly focused on fish biology. There are few reports on the measures of how to deal with the ecological fishery in Lake Taihu.The fishery in Lake Taihu has been the most important and advanced fishery base and also played the roles in Chinese freshwater fishery. Before 1966, the lake mainly depended on natural catching fishes; during the period from 1963 to 1983, the lake began to have the production mode such as artificial stocking, natural catching and fish culture in pond along the lake bank; since 1984, fish culture in net box started and the lake came through the course from extensive fish culture to intensive fish culture. During recent 50 years, the lake suffered from the bank shrink, pollution and eutrophication getting worse, over fishing and its environment in the lake had been destroyed such as the decrease of biotic evenness, the phenomenon of fishery miniaturization and so on so that it will be very difficult for the lake to sustainable develop. For the purpose of keeping the benefit circulation in fishery ecology environment in the lake, achieving the sustainable development of fishery in Lake Taihu and fishery economical sustainable growing, ecological fishery has to be carried out.The arm of my work was to analyze the development of fishery of the lake and to study the problems faced with during recent 20 years, based on the investigations of water quality and fishery, the relationship between intensity of fishing and fishery resources, miniature in fishery resources.
