The 21st century is the era of knowledge—based economy. With the popularity of theInternet and China's access to WTO, all of those happening in China expedite the globallyeconomic integration. Meanwhile, Chinese government is making vigorous effort to adapt tosuch inevitable change. During this period, the competition in construction market not only isof the general features of market competition, but also has its own specific characteristics. Atpresent, a buyer's market is characteristic of the construction market. It means that supplyexceeds demand, which makes the competition among constructors fiercer. Therefore,Chinese construction enterprises are facing some rare opportunities and inevitable challengesas well. Every enterprise is trying their best to seek a way for development. Yongchangconstructor enterprise is one of those medium-sized and small-sized enterprises. Based on theadvanced experience domestic and abroad, this paper analyzes Yongchang's internationalenvironment, domestic macroeconomic environment, industry environment, and its internalconditions by making full use of the strategic management theory and combining it with thepractice of Yongchang. After analyzing its advantages and disadvantages, its opportunitiesand challenges by means of SWOT model, the paper comes up with the total strategic planand the strategic plan for competition which are proper for Yongchang, that is to say, focusingits main efforts on enlarging the construction market in the countryside on condition that itkeeps the present business. At the same time, it should aim at integrating its development inits present field. Furthermore, relying on its own superiority, it should develop in coordinationwith some associated rising industries with the backing of some large-sized constructorsdomestic and abroad. The paper also discusses and puts forward some proposals for makingthe strategic plans which include how to restructure the present managerial system to meet theneed of implementing the strategic plans, how to take effective measures to enhance thequality of companies and so on. The author hopes that this paper will be helpful in buildingthe brighter future of all the Chinese construction enterprises.
