After reviewing and summarizing the present literatures of Location Theory in and around the country, this thesis adopts New Classical Economics' individual choice frame which based on cost-income analysis, and puts forward the abstract predigestion of urban space structure variation. From the point of individual, the process can be described as: according to its estimation of the cost and income, individual adjusts its behavior range gradually, consequently forming the urban space structure variation. Trying to spread the Location Theory further, this paper can help to explaining and forecasting the urban space structure variation. On the basis of this thought, this paper dividends the city economic actives into five categories: A. Gathering and dispersing by traffic; B. manufacture and produce; C. consuming; D.family inhabitancy; E.dominant decision making of society economy resources. Through the interaction of these five function location's "income- convenience of commute" and "cost-land value exploitation cost", this paper constructs a theory model to explain urban space structure variation.Secondly, this paper illuminates the applied method of urban space structure variation theory model. It mainly includes the defining indexes of all kinds urban function location; explains and forecasts the applied steps of this theory model on a two-dimension space.Thirdly, take Nanjing city as an example. After the demonstration datum analyze of Nanjing's function locations, this paper defines their ranges, and uses theory model to explain the variation of Nanjing's industry location in 1980s and forecasts the function of New south of Nanjing city, which will be empty after Qinghuai district Da Jiaochang airdrome's moving. Finally, summarize the whole paper; furthermore point out the shortage and the place need to perfect later.
