Since 1979, Shanghai has gone into the aging society firstly over the whole country. The population structure of Shanghai has four features: high degree and speed, dominant in advanced age and going to the aging society under a less developed economic background. On one hand, in the downtown areas of Shanghai, some communities are substantially densely-populated with the aged in view of its long history and scarce resources. On the other, the high price in real estate has restricted the development of facilities for institutionalized nursing of elderly.
