As change becomes the constant of today's corporate life and China has been a member of WTO, Chinese enterprises are facing more turbulent environments, therefore, leaders' quality and leadership style is very important for enterprises to survive and develop. The leader's quality is not only the inner factor of their behaviors, but also the basis of the leader's activities. The study of the leader is very important to pushing the theory of the leadership and improving the practice of the leadership theory, for it could decide the leader's effectiveness and further influence the benefit of the organization.This essay explored the relationship between biographical characteristics such as gender, age, educational background and leadership effectiveness through the empirical research based on the theories of leadership.The paper has introduced the study of leadership effectiveness theory at first; it has described the concept of leadership and biographical characteristics, then on the basis of drawing lessons from past research results, it has analyzed factors that influence leadership effectiveness; analyzed the inherent or external correlation between leadership behavior and biographical characteristics; then, the paper has put forward hypotheses relevant to biographical characteristics'influences to leadership effectiveness on the foundation of the above analysis.This paper chose 10 enterprises to make the questionnaire, and used SPSS to make data processing and examined the research hypothesis through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and One-Way ANOVA analysis. The results indicate that: the leaders'biographic characteristics variables have influences on leadership effectiveness in various degrees, which include age, gender, tenure and educational background; it has positive correlation between gender and leadership effectiveness. The relationship between tenure and leadership effectiveness is positive correlation. The leadership effectiveness gradually increased as the leaders got older, but it trended to decrease after the middle age. Educational background has influences on leadership effectiveness more or less; results also show that biographic characteristics are still related with leadership effectiveness when we take organization culture into consideration.Finally, this paper gave several suggests to leaders in enterprises based on the conclusions: breaking down old conventions of the biases in gender; educational degree and experience are important factors when selecting a proper leader in...
