Virtual teams have been brought into some organizations in order to adapt the dynamic exterior environment. The virtual teams have characters of virtual, non-boundary, network, resources, and shared knowledge. It helps some multinational corporations to resolve some difficulties in the strategic of global. Virtual teams have been developing and have been attracted abroad attention. In common teams, performance management is indispensable in order to achieve performance goal. Because virtual teams have their own characters, performance management in virtual teams have new contents, such as, good communicate media, durative team study. But now it uses ways of common teams behindhand, and it pays attention to process management and performance appraisal. All those go against of bringing virtual team's knowledge advantage into play. Based on above viewpoints, the text gives research on virtual teams in the angle of constructing performance management system.Because of the own characteristic of virtual teams, the paper points out the factors that influence the performance of virtual teams, and constructs I-P-O factor model. And input factor includes construction of institutional criterion, process factors includes implementation of institutional criterion, performance communication, and performance study. Both the input factors and process factors influence output factors, task performance, relation performance, and ability performance.The text establishes performance management system for virtual teams based on the I-P-O factor model. The system includes three nodes: construction and implementation of interdependence institutional criterion, well performance communication, performance study. All those are the core of the paper. We can improve the stakeholders' satisfaction and performance via innovating well institutional criterion, good communication and study environment. The system is a management process in advance. It can adjust the warps in the process via feedback timely in order to improve the performance.Virtual team has its own lifecycle: foundation phase, surge phase, criterion phase, effective phase. The text points out to implement performance management effectively in accord with the lifecycle of virtual teams. It also advances the emphases and notices of management.Virtual teams are different from common teams as a special organization forms. The study on virtual teams is in the primary phase. The paper is just doing research on performance management. It needs study more on construction of virtual teams, performance appraisal of virtual teams and so on.
