This paper is to study fresh and processed vegetable supply chain in tradition, fresh vegetable supply chain of horizontal cooperation and processed vegetable supply chain of vertical cooperation based on the case of Xinghua county in Jiangsu province. Multi-logit model was applied to determine factors influencing farmers' choices to join in the innovative vegetable supply chain and the methodology of statistic tests was applied to compare costs and benefits of farmers as the upstream point in vegetable supply chain.A survey of 244 farmers in Xinghua county was conducted in order to analyze fresh and processed vegetable supply chain both of traditional and innovative. The innovative chain involves cooperation in two types, horizontal cooperation among farmers and vertical cooperation between farmers and corporations. Innovative vegetable supply chains supply farmers with technique services and other convenience, which means, farmers can benefit from cooperation. The findings of empirical research on fanners' choice indicate, vegetables' sale income and available capital to input have significantly positive effects on farmers' participation in supply chain of horizontal cooperation compared with traditional supply chain, while professional intensity, the ability to obtain the technique, the ablity to obtain production materials, the ability to resist natural risk, bargain ability and the encounter of products being sent back for pesticides issue have prominently negative influence. Meanwhile, being as cadre, professional intensity and available capital to input have significantly positive effects on farmers' choice between participation in vertical cooperation supply chain and traditional supply chain, while education, the ability to obtain the technique, the ability to get market information, the ability to resist natural risk and the encounter of products being sent back for pesticides issue have prominently negative influence. Besides, when farmers are faced with the supply chain of horizontal and vertical cooperation, the ability to get market information is the positive factor influencing farmers' choice to join the horizontal cooperation supply chain and professional intensity, the ability to obtain the technique and the ablity to obtain production materials and bargain ability are negative factors. The comparation of farmers' costs and benefits among different supply chains using parameter tests and non-parameter tests of two-independent sample shows that, it is quite different at a certain cost, but similar at total costs. The benefits from the horizontal cooperation supply chain are higher than that from traditional supply chain. In contrast, the benefits from the vertical cooperation supply chain are lower than that...
