Under the social agenda of economic globalization and with the much development of Chinese socialist economy, the capacity of the city competition becomes a very loud strategic slogan, also is a hot topic of the current city research.Jiangsu Province is one of the richest provinces in China. In Jiangsu, the eitht cities along Yangtze River make up the leading region, such as Nanjing, Wuxi, Suzhou, Zhenjiang, Nantong, Yangzhou and Taizhou. Facing the great opportunity of development along Yangtze River, it is urgent to study the countermeasures of improving the urban competitiveness of the eight cities along Yangtze River in Jiangsu.The urban competitiveness is a new subject in China. At first, the article expatiates the urban competitiveness; then it builds a scientific theory system and method structure through analysis of theories and study method about urban competitiveness; and then it establishes an index system to study the urban competitiveness of the eight cities along Yangtze River in Jiangsu; at last, for the coordinate development of the whole region, the article puts forwards some countermeasures of improving the urban competitiveness of the eight cities along Yangtze River in Jiangsu.Combining quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis, and real examples withtheories, this paper takes the important region-eight cities along Yangtze River in Jiangsuas the research object, which is one of the richest provinces in China. It has a positive theory meaning in enriching existing research in urban competitiveness, and there is certain practice value to promote the coordinate development of the eight cities along Yangtze River in Jiangsu.
