Port handling machinery is indispensable for production of modern ports, and it is also the material guarantee for port handling and storage, and the great part of port fixed assets. Port machinery management is very important for modern port. At present, as a result of the historical reasons, the disposition of the port handling machinery in domestic ports has many problems. How to control the quantity and structure is the primal problem. Using multi-objective programming, this paper analyses the rational quantity of Dalian Port's handling machinery economically. This paper is written under the circumstances that Dalian port, facing furious competition among ports all over the world, is striving to become the northeast-Asian international shipping center. It makes a profound research on the importance of improving management of port machinery and decreasing stevedoring cost. Beginning with analysis of port handling machinery, it introduces the importance of port machinery management in port companies. Taking Tianjin, Qingdao, Jinzhou as examples, it also analyses management and configuration situation of port machinery, and concludes the development trend of port stevedoring machinery in China. The third chapter analyses the factors economically that can influence the rational quantity of port stevedoring machinery, including mechanical commencing load, rate of good facility condition and usage, age of facilities, cost of purchase and operation, etc. The fourth chapter finds out some problems by analyzing configurational situation of port stevedoring machinery of Dalian Port, mainly focusing on the aging of facilities, poor management, short loading ability, etc. To solve the problems above, Dalian Port must improve machinery management, configure stevedoring machinery rationally. The fifth chapter analyses two existing models which can help calculate rational machinery...
