A Research On Participating Strategies Of ASEAN Into The Cooperation Process Of Asia-Pacific Regional Economy

A new round of economic & trade cooperation revolving around ASEAN has been formed in the Asia-Pacific Region after the financial crisis. The economic growth of ASEAN indicates that the economic dependence of ASEAN on this region, especially on East Asia & the U.S. has become more and more obvious. It is an inevitable trend for ASEAN to participate in the economic cooperation of the Asia-Pacific Region.Under the structure of export orientation, cooperation strategies, divided into trade & investment arrangements, have been discussed on the economic level from the perspective of global economic cooperation. Trade & investment arrangements have been observed in a microscopic way in terms of countries, based on which, strategic priorities regarding countries, products, investments, etc. have been established. Then macroscopic study of these priorities can give such a conclusion: since the excessive dependence of ASEAN on external countries, especially Japan and the U.S., is proved to be unequal and harmful to the overall participation of ASEAN into the process of the integration of Asia-Pacific Region, ASEAN should promote the industrial upgrade unceasingly in order to improve the economic independence of itself, as well as the establishment of the smooth intraregional cooperation system of division of production.Based on the empirical analysis in a scientific and detailed way, theoretical illustration and empirical analysis are combined with graphs and models to induct and testify theories as their grounds. The dissertation consists of five parts: Introduction illustrates such things concerning researching background, objection, methods, structure and so on; the historical analysis of external economic strategies of ASEAN is introduced in Chapter 1 while Chapter 2 inquires into the external trade effect of ASEAN; Chapter 3 presents the analysis of the FDI effect with first analyzing the current situation of FDI intraregional and then studying the industrial inflows of these investments; in Chapter 4, observed under the context of Asia-Pacific Region ASEAN in a macroscopic way, the strategies are analyzed and suggestions relating the participating strategies for ASEAN into the regional cooperation are brought forward.
