An Investigation On The Status And Developmental Strategy Of Aromatic Tobacco Production In Shaoxing

Aromatic tobacco acts an important role in adjusting flavor and smell of mixed cigarette ingredients. Mixed cigarette has been showing a good prospect in development because of its according with requirement by market and consumer due to reducing tar content of cigarette and alleviating smoking harm to health, as a consequence, aromatic tobacco is also showing the wide application in markets.Shaoxing is well known for its long history in aromatic tobacco production. It has been characterized by local feature, being even in color and special in flavor, and enjoys a good reputation in the national markets. Thus it has been remaining a good production and selling trends for two decades owing to its elite quality although the tobacco markets are filled with competition.In the current research, the developmental of aromatic tobacco in China was outlined, and the history of aromatic tobacco in Shaoxing was reviewed. Moreover, the developmental trends of the tobacco and the market challenge for Shaoxing aromatic tobacco were investigated. Furthermore, the inherent advantages and limiting factors of Shaoxing aromatic tobacco were analyzed. Finally, the considerations and strategies of developing Shaoxing aromatic tobacco production were also discussed. The main results are as follows.(1) The supply of Shaoxing aromatic tobacco is now falling short of demand in market after a short duration of fluctuation. Considering the particularity of the tobacco ingredients, the short supply means a new chance for further development, but also indicates an important decision for production.(2) The inherent advantages of Shaoxing aromatic tobacco can be expressed mainly as suitable ecological conditions, distinct advanced technology, solid facilities, good policy environment and rich personal resource.(3) The main factors liming the production of Shaoxing aromatic tobacco include relatively low economic efficiency in tobacco leaf production, weak enthusiasm of tobacco farmers in planting tobacco, general decline in the capacity of tobacco farmers, a marked contradiction between traditional individual production and modern market economy, poor internet system and weak power for technology extension, unreasonable running system for tobacco leaf production and selling, and severe conflict between the agents related to tobacco management.(4) The developmental considerations of Shaoxing aromatic tobacco are proposed as that: increasing tobacco leaf production through enlarging planting area; practicing the plan of name brand, enhancing tobacco production by means of relying on science and technology, and reforming the relevant systems.(5) The developmental strategies as follows should be conducted in order to developing Shaoxing aromatic tobacco: improving basic tobacco-planting fields so as to ensuring planting scale; increasing input to production to enlarge productive scale; improving product quality based on science and technology; stimulating reform of the relevant system to make the perfect running system.
