Oasis agriculture is one of the typical modes of traditional Chinese agriculture, it is the result of warfare between man and extremely arid environment. The crop planting and irrigation mode in oasis was adapt to the local physical geography, thus formed the unique agro-landscape full of flavor in Chinese western regions. However, in the late 30 years especially after the Development Of West Regions stratagem was launched, the pattern and course of agro-landscape in oasis was dramatically changed along with the economic development, fast growing of urbanization and industrialization.Taking Shanshan oasis in Xinjiang as an example, the thesis focuses on the agro-landscape change process in recent 30 years, then analyzes the driving force behind the change. Finally, discusses and evaluates its future development under different new circumstances.Based on the data from RS image and field study, the paper reveals the pattern and process change of agro-landscape in Shanshan oasis, including the change of land use, farming areas and its distribution together with crop planting types, and the change of water resource circulation, water system and agriculture production process. Then, the paper put forward the driving forces bringing on the changes through a great deal of statistical data. The direct driving forces include population enlargement, groundwater exploitation and production adjustment. The indirect driving forces include urbanization, industrialization, agriculture development and impact of the policy system. Finally, 4 scenarios are designed for the future development of Shanshan oasis. They are modern efficient irrigated agriculture, high price and low output agriculture, low price and high output agriculture and oasis agriculture taken ecological responsibility. Evaluated from its economic, social and ecological perspective, modern efficient irrigated agriculture is comparatively the best choice for Shanshan oasis.
