Land resource, as one of important resources, affects our live and our country'sproduction directly. With the research on the global changes is spring up in recently years, the research of land use, as a central content in global change research, is becoming oneof the most active research fields of in international society. The Yangtze River Delta is oneof economical cores in China. With the development of industrialization and urbanization, land use is undergoing a great change in Yangtze River Delta. The change of arable landis undergoing height periods of decrease. It affects on the sustainable development of theYangtze River Delta. On the base of the data of land use from 1996 to 2004, this paperanalyzed land use status, spatial variations by a series of index and the driving force ofquantity changes of land use. This paper analyzed and forecast the quality of arable landresources' turning into non-agricultural land in future. At last the feasible advices were putout for realizing sustainable land use.1. This paper analyzed the land use change of the Yangtze River Delta. The resultsshow that there is a trend of decrease in arable land and a trend of increase in building land. The arable land area reduced 386.43khm~2 from 1996 to 2004. The building land areaincreased 345.86 khm~2.2. This paper analyzed the dynamic degree of land use in the Yangtze River Delta. The results show that the dynamic degree of land use of the rejoin of Nanjing and Wuxi andSuzhou and Changzhou was the greater than other rejoin. To residential andindustry-mine land, the dynamic degree of land use of Jiangsu was greater than Zhejiangand Shanghai. To transportation land, the dynamic degree of land use of Jiangsu waslower than Zhejiang and Shanghai.3. The results show that there is a trend of graden land and forest land. The gradenland area increase 9.3khm~2. The forest land area increased 36.47khm~2. The Changingintensity index of graden land and forest land were higher than arable land. The changes ofgraden land and forest land effect on decreasing of arable land. 4. The results show that there is a trend of increase of the land use degree in theYangtze River Delta. The trend of Jiangsu and Zhejiang and Shanghai were in accordwith rejoin. In 2004, the land use degree of Jiaxing city was 303.94. It was the greaterthan other cities. The change of the land use degree of Changzhou was greater than othercities. The change of the land use degree of Taizhou city is the lowest in the YangtzeRiver Delta.5. The land scape pattern changes significantly from 1996 to 2004, the evenness indexincreased from 70.08% to 72.76%. The dominance index reduced from 0.661 to 0.604.6. On base of factor analysis the paper analyzed driving factors of the Yangtze RiverDelta. The results show that society factor and economic factor were leading factor of theland change in the Yangtze River Delta.7. The change of building land is undergoing the process from steep increase to gentlyincrease. And the change of arable land is undergoing the height periods of decrease. Thepressure of the building land occupied on arable land is gradually mitigated. The decreasecurrent of arable land isn't obvious because of the great change of the farming land interior. To mitigate the press of economic growth on arable land, the increase rate of GDP shouldbe less than 12%.8. By synthetically deliberating factors which cause quantity change of arable land:land arrangement and reclamation; biologic rescue and disaster devastating arable land, theauthor constructs the model to predict the quantity of arable land resourcesnon-agrivulturalization. The quantity of arable land resources non-agriculturalization is152.96 khm~2 from 2005 to 2010 in the Yangtze River Delta. But the demand of arableland is 610.53 khm~2 from 2011 to 2020.9. In this paper, based on the theory of ecological footprint, calculated and analyzedthe ecological footprint of the Yangtze River Delta during the period from 1996 to 2004with the method of variable world average yield. The results show that ecologicalfootprint and ecological capacity of the Yangtze River Delta mounted continually. Theecological footprint deficit continued to increase. The Fossil fuel land and arable landwere an import part of ecological footprint and ecological capacity. The Yangtze RiverDelta was in a state of unsustainable development.
