Achievements And Challenges Of The Common Agriculture Policy Of EU

Agriculture is a vital sector in a country's development. Working as a guidance,policy orientation plays an indispensable role in this process. Common AgriculturalPolicy (CAP)is the core pillar among all the policies of the European Union. During itsapplication and implementation for the past forty years, it has contributed positively to theagricultural development of EU countries. This contribution facilitated EU, within a veryshort time, transited from a pure agricultural product importing organization into a majorexporting consortium. As a consequence, agriculture has acquired speedy recovery anddevelopment. At the same time, CAP is facing challenges of various nature. Both internaland external pressures have coerced the continuous adjustment and reform of CAP.This essay traced back the origin of the CAP, introduced and analyzed the twomajor fundamental reforms as well as the new millennium reform. After the introductionand analysis part, the author pointed out the development direction of CAP and providedan in-depth analysis of the achievements CAP attained as well as the problemsencountered during the implementation of this policy. As a conclusion, status quo of theagricultural supportive policy of China, PR was mentioned.
