LBS (Location Based Service) offers the mobile users with instant, accurate and wide range of personal location services which is being brought into their daily life. Its greatest charm lies in that the user is able to obtain prompt and useful information as well as sending messages to the right person at the right time and place. The LBS has achieved a thriving development in Europe, America, Japan and Korea among the business users and mass private users and is becoming a very important profit point of the mobile servers.Compared with these countries, the LBS industry in China is behind the pace, with only a small scale of subscribers. This kind of service, occupying only a small proportion of the total value-added service profit, is still at the initial stage. As the mobile communicating network is being upgraded from 2.5G to 3G and the 2008 Olympic Games is drawing near, the enormous mobile market in China will definitely provide the LBS with a benign developing space and promising prospect to make it one of the most competitive 3G core services.Based on a research on the current situation of LBS in Europe, America, Japan and Korea, this thesis brought about some issues to be concerned during the development in China as well as some experience available.The conclusion of this thesis is made after the study on the current development of LBS in China, some influence factors, industry value chain and profit modes by employing some theoretical analysis tools.Large amount of data and analysis report from the mobile servers and consultancy companies have been referred to during this process. Through the analysis on the developing trend of LBS, this paper suggests that China's mobile operators play the leading role in spreading the LBS in China. Following the example of Taobao and Baidu on their profit modes, China's mobile operators shall bring forth LBS-based mobile electronic business services of special features.The main views of this paper include:1. LBS enjoys a vast potential market and application prospect.2. China's mobile operators should lead the LBS development and construct its facade by innovating the profit modes and combining the LBS with M-commerce and mobile search and so on.
